The shrine’s a popular wedding location. Cool outfits huh?! I loved the parasol. I think that guy holding it could make a small fortune in Austin during the summer.
Prayer wall in the shrine courtyard. We got a wooden shingle plaque and wrote our prayers on it. I’m not sure which religion it is, but if someone’s going to pray for me does it really matter?
Every year the shrine is given offerings of Sake and French wine. These are the huge sake barrels. Supposedly Meiji developed a taste for French wine after modernizing Japan (there’s one good reason to open things up).
Went to the Meiji Shrine today. He is credited with modernizing Japan in the late 1800’s and is considered a national hero. The shrine’s in a beautiful natural park.
Wow, so much for the conservative Japanese! I just wish the candelabra had lit up. We went out to the Nichome neighborhood last night for a drink to celebrate my 28th birthday. Had a blast and met a bunch of fun people from all over, Switzerland, Australia and a lot of Americans.
